Great guided tour of the largest ruin in the United States.

For the morning of day 2, we opted to take what they call the 700 year tour. This is a guided tour that takes you on a 4 hour bus tour around the park hitting the highlights. Our guide Holly was very knowledgeable.

Stops included:
Pit House
Square Tower House - Very interesting
More Pit Houses
Sun Temple
Cliff Palace - Usually a walk through which is only on the tour, but was closed while we were there until the following week. :(
Hemingway House
Balcony House

Please note that the Wetherhill Mesa (western mesa) is closed, probably through 2024 for maintenance.

Highlight of the day. An easy hike with a ladder or two thrown in. The Ranger was very entertaining and informative. A must if you come to Mesa Verde.

Rather than the group of 60 that are usually on these tours, this was a group of 20. There may have even been less. Everyone met up at the overlook and we headed down around 7:15, guided by Virginia McClurg. Or, if you'd prefer, a park ranger portraying Virginia McClurg. Lot's of chuckles to be had.

There was some nice evening light on the south end of the dwelling, which made for some nice pictures. If you're going to visit Cliff Palace, this is the way to do it.
