We pushed off from the Devil's Postpile trailhead heading for the Rainbow Falls. The Falls came up in 2.5 miles and were pretty impressive. We continued down to the Lower Falls which was at the 3.2 mile mark. We took a 15 minute break here to grab a quick bite. The last mile of this part of the trip was pretty exposed to the sun as it went through the burn area from the 1992 Rainbow Fire. On the return we took the turnoff to Reds Meadow so as to catch the shuttle bus at stop number 10. This last .7 mile portion was back in the trees and more enjoyable. The entire trek came in at 5.0 miles in 2 hours and 10 minutes with 630 feet of AEG.

Finally got to Mammoth Mountain Ski Area that turns into Mountain Bike Park in summers, so their business is going year-round. Rode a scenic gondola to the top of Mammoth mountain and back, then went to Devils Postpile NM.
Hiked from Ranger Station to Minaret Falls, back to the bridge via John Muir and King Creek trail, made a Devils Postpile loop, then down to Rainbow Falls and Lower Falls, then up to Reds Meadow Resort.
Minaret Falls is shown on map as a stream dividing into three and then reuniting into one between JMT and PCT. Actually PCT goes to the bottom falls and from there it's possible to hike up along the falls. The falls is wide and has multiple tiers, there's a little swimming hole, actually the size of jacuzzi, one the middle level and it was occupied when I got there.
King Creek trail gives a nice frontal view of Devils Postpile as you are looking at it from the same level, not from the bottom of it as you do from official viewpoint. Rainbow Falls is as good as they say. As for Lower Falls, I think it isn't worth going there, it's not actually a falls, more like a rapids.
