I really enjoyed this hike. A little steep in places. Ruins on the way up, or so it appeared. Either that or somebody local had a lot of time on their hands. I found the USGS marker at the top. That southern edge was a bit worrisome. Especially with the high winds. I had to set up the antenna for portable ham radio ops down from the peak a little on the north side so it wouldn't topple over the edge, should the wind tip it over (which it did).

I also hiked Cochrane Hill which doesn't have a write-up in HAZ at the moment. I'll have to rectify that. It was about the same distance. And I drove to the top of North Sheba Crater for radio ops. Man North Sheba Crater was desolate. I couldn't hardly scrounge up a rock to keep my antenna mast up. Had to lean my back against it to keep the wind from blowing it over . . . that only worked about half the time.

I have driven past this peak numerous times on my way to the warehouse for my river job and had an extra day in Flag to go explore. This was a really enjoyable short hike with great views and lots of walls, sherds and chipped stone. I took the route in the description and then went to check out the other peak on my way back.

Peak number 2 for SOTA today my passengers finished skiing early I really wanted to spend more time on this one. It reminded me of peaks down in the valley. Another 11 points in the SOTA log 794 points 87 summits. 206 more points to go to make 1000

Sort of an interesting trail on a crater in Doney. If it were close, I might do it more, otherwise once is enough. I can't understand why anyone would want to live on that crater. Unless is was seasonal only, or for defense, it must have been extremely windy, cold, and a generally unpleasant place to live 800 years ago. Good views, though.

My second time on this crater...only about 5 minutes drive from my house.

I went exploring down the STEEP south face...many, many potsherds as I sled down the slope to the bottom..where there were even MORE!! In fact, I came across the LARGEST pot sherd I have ever seen sans museum (see photos).

I stupidly left my water back at the summit since I didn't think I would wander off so far...was pretty dehydrated by the time I climbed all the way back up from the basin. As well, in the 90 minutes I was gone, a monsoon rolled in...barely made it back to my truck. Saw some sick looking lighting strikes not too far away.
