Coming home from Torrey, UT, I took a scenic drive, down SR 95, UT 261, US 163, and 160, with detours to my old house and neighborhood, the new hospital with actual housing so you don't have to live in a crumbling project, and the Skeleton Mesa ramp.

Time changes things, and while I hated it then most of the time, it was just over a year of my life. Fact is, if you feel safe going here and leaving a vehicle, the hikes are cool. The canyon hike to the Todacheene Farm was awesome, as was the archeological site. That canyon and Skeleton Mesa I would like to revisit, as I would Black Mesa, but my guess it that is not likely to ever happen. I don't know I would want to leave my car alone out here. Actually the hike to the farm might be the safest.

PM me if you are ever interested in any of these.

Being tired of Black Mesa, I opted for this today. The hike itself is OK, but just not worth doing that often. The road in was rough, and I almost got stuck in sand at one spot, and then the trail is actually fairly short. I was almost to the top of the mesa and I still thought I had a lot of hiking left, when I turned a bend, and was surprised to practically be there. Also, it's another hike with no real views to speak of on the top. It's mostly just dense PJ and sage, and that just isn't very interesting. I decided to keep on exploring the trail a little, and went about a mile past the top. I ended up at second group of ponderosa pines with a small muddy hole in the middle of a few of them. I bet there are scattered groups of ponderosa over a lot of the mesa. I found the spot in the satellite image, and it turned out I was really close to a canyon that came in from the west. Oh well.

I turned around and went home, only to step on a cedar stick that went clean through my shoe and 1/2 an inch into my foot. Going in was bad enough, having to pull out the stick was way worse. Plus, I had to finish the hike. I went to work to see if someone would look at it and clean it out and make sure there was nothing residual in the puncture. My boss told me that due to my shoe being on when the puncture occurred, I needed an antibiotic. I checked in to be seen only to get one of our naturalistic docs who doesn't like to prescribe antibiotics. I sure hope I don't get a Pseudomonas infection, as that was entire reason I checked in to be seen for all the money it will cost.

There is a trail and once found it isn't too hard to use, but it is hard to find the trailhead if you don't know where to look.

I made the top of Skeleton Mesa. A good hike. Very nice area.
