Hot day + little wind + lots of bugs = poor conditions. I will admit that the heat got to me pretty good. Lots of cramping that really slowed me up. However, all turned out well, but this area is best left for late fall through early spring. Lots of people between the HQ and China Hole, but not a lot of peeps on Middle Ridge and Fish trails.

Did this with Ron. What a great way to cap off 2012. I hadn't done a tough hike since before Thanksgiving, and I felt it today. I even had new shoes as well. Henry Coe State Park was pretty much deserted except for a few backpackers coming out right after we started and a few folks towards the end. The bottom of the canyon near Poverty Flat campsites looked as if it hadn't seen any people since the last rain late last week.
We did a different route from the HQ than last time. Took Corral Trail to Frog Lake Trail to Frog Lake, then Middle Ridge Trail down to Poverty Flat then up on the Poverty Flat Road to Manzanita Ridge back to the HQ. Another good one.

Pretty cool hike with rdavisiii. See hike description for more details. I was really surprised by the diversity of vegetation and lack of cattle. Very cool.
