The next day after Canyonland NP we headed to Mesa Verde. Many of the exhibits were closed so we headed to Wetherill Mesa and hiked the Long House loop trail there. The Long House required a reservation for a guided tour and we didn't have that so we admired from afar. This was an interesting walk but I'm not sure I would be back even if I had reservations. The Cliff Palace was closed for road repair but when it is open you need reservations for that too. Al in all it was interesting and I can say I've been there now.

It's been a while since I've been to Wetherill Mesa. Long House tours were all sold out this day so I walked to this overlook instead. Underrated trail in my opinion - no massive cliff dwellings, but you get a great view into a beautiful canyon.

Visited this site and several others, most normally closed to Park visitors. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the sites and their early exploration by Nordenskiold and others. Lots of pottery shards scattered over the Mesa once you get away from the normal tourist areas. Great time on Wetherhil Mesa.

Out to the overlook and back. Probably spent a half-hour at the overlook. Had it all to myself while I stared at the ruins, took in the canyon views, and enjoyed the solitude.

Quite a few birds gliding around the cliffs. A couple ravens, and what I think were sparrows, but I'm pretty clueless with birds. Looked like they had some white and green on their wings.
