Ok, next up... The .7-mile drive closer to the next peak was very tedious, barely averaging 2 mph. Yes, I could have walked as fast but it still would have been treacherous. And further, I was hoping to get far enough that I could do one climb then return to the car to replenish fluids before heading the other direction next.

So much for hope... I reached one are that had so eroded at an angle since I hiked here 6-7 months ago that it was not something I felt like dealing with today so I decided to hike from here. Before doing so I wanted to get turned around. But try turning around in a space 3-4 feet wider than the length of the vehicle with a high bank on one side and a steep slope on the other. Then add oversize tires and no power steering. Whew!

After getting turned around I was sweating more than on any climbs. Enough so I had to take a break before setting off on my third climb. A good a time as any to eat my first PB&J anyway. :y:

By time I hit the trail for summit #3 it was 11:30 am, over 100 degrees and it's two summits down, two to go. Although this would be the longest distance hike of the day it was relatively easy, with the only steep area near the summit where there were plenty of healthy jojoba bushes to hang on to.

And once at the summit... Wow! :y:

I simply did not expect to have such a view! This would be by far the best scenery of the day, and possibly some of the best I'd seen in the last dozen summit hikes. Just awesome! I'll have to bring Tracey out here when the temps are more to her liking... 20-30 degrees cooler. As for me, this time of the year suits me fine... I would not see another soul all day.

I posted 25 photos here on HAZ with the full set of 39 photos here:
