| no partners | | I forgot this trail was here. Was it here in 1986? I may have took my daughter on it.
The visitor center was closed. You can still do the hike. I was checking it out for my grandson. Next time we are in the area we can hike it. I did a lap each way and walked the lot to get my mile. LOL
should be fun for a little one! |

| partners | | One of my favorite little trails in AZ! Been many times in the summer but never in the Fall. Aspen changing beautiful yellow with some still green.
By the lake general store more changing aspen.
On the paved road past Big Lake the aspen are WowOHWow lush peak and deep into forest. One side of the road unaffected by fire and other side patchy jumps of fire burn to ponderosa. So great mix of young and old aspen. Stunning drive that section !!!! And almost no one seen for hours anywhere around there. |

Autumn Foliage Observation Substantial More on the FR 24/25 paved staying straight (not the turn off for the nature trail ). |

| partners | | Rented a boat on Big Lake - Caroline drove the boat the whole time! Massive storm above Mount Baldy.
Big Lake Visitor Center was open - looked at the scat display and did animal prints in sand.
For the first time ever - we couldn't hike the nature trail - too much rain. Called it a day and went home to Greer. |

| partners | | We spent the day at Big Lake and weather was just perfect. First time EVER that the nature center was actually open - so we spent some time looking around the exhibits. The display of scat from all the animals of the White Mountains was the big hit of course!! I think the kids would have stared at the poop display for several hours if I had not pushed them to look at something else.
Then we hiked the little nature trail - one of my favorite mini-hikes in Arizona. Then down to the marina to rent a boat and spend some time on the lake.
Once we got out away from the dock, Caroline steered the boat the whole time on the lake! She got the hang of it after a while and some zig-zagging and turning in circles. I'm sure if you had a GPS route of our boat -- someone would have thought we were crazy teenagers or doing drugs or something. But it was so fun to watch her 5 year old eyes light up with excitement to be in control of something so powerful and to be doing a pretty darn good job at it! |

| partners | | Caroline 3.5 years, George 17 months old. Fun day at the lake with perfect weather in high 60's slightly overcast but no rain. Caroline took her backpack, net, binoculars, and nature collection bag for this hike and of course she was line leader. We accidentally back tracked around marker #11 - how is it even possible to get lost on a 0.5 mile trail??? Nature Center is closed for the summer.
Then we rented a boat for an hour and Caroline steered most of the time. She got a lesson in directions and speed - - took a few circles and then she got the hang of it. Saw couple of blue heron type birds - cows on the edge. Lots of people on the lake today. Had a picnic lunch under a tree and George got his own fishing pole too. |

| partners | | Caroline was 2.5 years old and George was 5 months old. It was one week after the Big Lake Road was opened after the big Wallow fire in late June. Hardly anyone at the marina or renting boats. Big storm came in and we couldn't rent a boat, but Caroline fished by the shore line and we squeezed in a quick hike on the nature trail. This was one of Caroline's first independent hikes on her own without being carried. I held George in the ERGO and he did fine. |

| partners | | Caroline was 20 months old and I found out I was pregnant with George three days prior! We were on a White Mountain vacation week and spent the day at Big Lake. Went on the nature trail then rented a boat for a half hour. Caroline rode in the Kelty carrying her baby doll. Visitor Center was closed but someone was inside and we knocked to go in and got a copy of the nature trail guide book. |
