I've suggested this hike for years to deaf ears. Understandable too, the catclaw gang has a tight grip on the neighborhood.

98% of the trail shockingly exists. After Shady Dell, nuisance catclaw is typically near. Newbies will write it off as horrible.

Terrain and views exceed my expectations. We followed a group of motorcycles off the main ridge down to BI Creek. FS Topo shows it going further with branching options now. Good reason to return along with trail 71.

Lost interest in checking off the final 8 furlongs. Returned up BI Creek. The nicest creek hike I recall in recent years.

Butler Spring looks dependable. Great option for backpack explorers. Saw one small unabused campsite. Intrepid kitchen sink haulers will find room.

First triplog posted directly from Route Scout Beta. One tap starts triplog with stats and embeds route.

Joes week to pick and he gave me 3 choices.

I think he was a bit surprised when I responded back with a completed track for him.
Back to show the Bradshaws some more love. This full trail has been on my radar since JJ and I teased the eastern portion of this in 2014. We got just past Shady Dell on our Senator Highway sampler day.

We entered the Bradshaws via FR67 out of Mayer. The road is in great shape. The Senator Highway, for the 6.5 miles we were on it, was also in good shape. This was my first time on FR67, since the Goodwin Fire from June/July of last year, burned 28,500 acres. It looks like a moonscape in many areas mainly north of FR67 and East of FR52 (Senator Hwy)

We started our hike 6.5 miles south of FR67 on the Senator. There is a parking area with signs for the Tuscumbia Trail #215, but nothing for the Blind Indian #211. The #211 starts on the west side of FR52, just to the south of the drainage. It will be obvious when you see it. Happily, some motorcycle traffic has been able to keep parts of this trail alive. It is in decent shape all the way to the Shady Dell area 1.4 miles into the hike. Two buildings still stand, one in much better shape than the other. There is a well out front, complete with a 50' rope and a gatorade bottle.

When JJ and I did our abbreviated lasso loop out here, I was trying to confirm the actual location of the trail that made its way west. Since that time, I'd traced out the actual trail using HAZ's Sat maps and Route Editor.

Climbing out of the North Fork of Blind Indian Creek, the trail is steep and rutted. This route is required for the cycles/bikes to bypass a couple of 15' dryfalls in the BI creek bed. 5 miles and 1300' of AEG later, you are back down in the creek bed. There is a hint of catclaw in this section (actually much more than a hint) so wear long shirt and pants. Most won't like this section because of the growth, but the views are great. Navigation is no problem whatsoever.

Back in BI Creek, the travel is easy and picturesque. Getting out of the exciting stuff and traveling across flatter sections, we chose to turn around a mile short of the western (Lower) Trailhead.

We took the Creekbed all the way back to the truck. It is some of the easiest creekbed walking I've done. There were only two areas we had to climb around prior to getting back to the Shady Dell area.

There still some more trails out there we need to find/confirm/hike.

Phrase of the day.
Not sure what type of bird that is... It's too big to be a little bird

Bruce and I had been planning a hiking and touring excursion down Senator Highway for quite some time now. Rain and scheduling issues held us up for almost a month. Today the stars lined up and we were on our way.

We met early and headed up to Prescott where we would start our day long journey down the old dirt Highway. Bruce had done an amazing job of laying out a spread sheet with all the various points of interest along the way. We visited old cemeteries, old town sights, mining spots, and former homesteads as we made our way towards Crown King.

Along our travels we would also hike various trails. We first visited the Pine Spring Cabin area which was very cool. Then we took the Blind Indian Trail and went down to Shady Del Cabin and then made a lasso back to the trailhead. This was my favorite hike of the day. The cabin and it's location were super cool. From here we headed on down the road stopping at several points of interest. The next hike was Horse Mountain. This trail is in serious need of some trimming. The views from up top were absolutely spectacular!

Next I hiked up to Towers Mountain. (Listed in a separate triplog) While Bruce took a short break. After that we headed down the road and hit Porphry Mountain. Once again great views but Horse holds the title for best views of the day.

That would conclude our hikes but not our day. After Porphry we continued on down the road stopping at Bradshaw City and then we made a visit to Bradshaw City Cemetery.

Finally, we headed to Crown King and made a stop for something to eat. Ooops, they quit serving dinner an hour before our arrival. Current time was 7:10pm. :?

It was a fantastic day that I really enjoyed. It was like a history lesson with hiking on a perfect Arizona day. Thanks a bunch Bruce!

Next stop for the day. This was an exploratory trip for a future hike.

There is no sign at the trailhead and it does not start where indicated on the Topo maps.
(See my GPS Track). I placed a small Cairn by the road.

This trail is no longer maintained by PNF.... but is in better shape that quite a few maintained trails.

The Shady Dells ruins were interesting and unusual construction. They had actually plastered the walls. The well out front had water.

I was able to verify the continuation of the trail is nowhere near where indicated on the Topo maps.

Probably my favorite overall hike on the day.
