Worked 3 days of workover and had a day to burn before needing to be in Grand Junction Colorado. Decided this was on the way got up after 4 hours of sleep. I didn’t have great gear no poles and backpack with broken chest strap I use as overnight bag in heli. And no bladder.
4 hours sleep and on my way. Parked at the bottom because of reports of the road and I was going slower in truck than I can hike. Could have driven the frontier 2+ miles further and Pinz would’ve been stopped at the second to the last obstacle. I will drive Pinz to do Ellingwood point. I hate that road! I normally would bring poles for the hike down on such a rocky rough trail. Sleep deprivation was probably the cause of a couple Miss steps early on. Pretty sure I broke two toes and smashed the rest. Had blood coming out of Every nail bed on every toe. I still managed to maintain 3 mph up to the summit roughly 7 miles. Coming down was another story. After stopping at the top for 30 min. My feet and toes hurt so bad I could barely maintain 2 mph. Once I hit the road it was torture on the loose river rocks. Dropped my air pod charger had to back track 1 mile. Scenery was spectacular and the high alpine lakes and running water was beautiful. Could have done without 5 super loud rock crawlers lined up to do the last obstacle before lake como blasting stupid music. Also could have done with out the road. Trekking poles would have probably been the solution to the feet which are swollen and still recovering two days later.

Second half of back to back 14ers. This one appealed to me on account of being the highest peak outside the Sawatch Range, and an ultraprominent peak.

Could've started much further up, didn't know the road was doable for another two miles.

Was followed by a couple of guys all the way up to the Ellingwood turn, they decided to head up that way. Ran into them again on the way down, at the saddle.

Climb up the summit ridge was fun. Scrambly but stable. I could see rockfall being a problem if someone is careless.

Ran hard the last couple miles, just to make sure my quads are fully trashed.

I followed the standard class 2 route to the summit (14,345'). I hit some class 3 above the saddle, but that was my choice. I had good fortune on the mountain, and with this summit I can say I climbed all 4 of the Navajo's sacred mountains. I left the area the same day and descended via the Lake Como Rd, time and mileage does not reflecting this fact.
I was tired on this climb from packing in the previous evening, and from doing Hesperus Mt two days prior. Still, it was good. I got to see a guy who was descending behind me trigger a slide that sent suitcase sized rocks flying for freedom and bouncing 50 feet in the air, and also the stellar view from the high point of the Sangre De Cristo Mountains.

The pictures are the best way to describe the route.

I had to start down in the Chico and work my way up the road from about 8000' to the summit at 14,345'. The weather was great this day...except when I was near and on the summit. Once on top I was shrouded in clouds and I had no view to enjoy. About 8 minutes after I got to the top a bolt of lighting hit a ridge (Mt Lindsey?) nearby to the east and I got off the summit in a hurry. It started to gromit on me and the temperature dropped making coming off in some class three stuff a little hard. Fortunetly by the time I was back below 12,000' the skies cleared. I made it down the really rough Lake Como Rd in about 3 hours and was out by 530pm. I want to do this again, but as a backpacking trip.
