Nice counter-clockwise loop from Carson Pass hitting frozen-over Woods, Winnemucca and Frog Lakes following a XC route designated with blue diamond tree tags. Broke in my new MSR Evo Ascent showshoes, very nice.

Carson Pass and nearby Meiss trailheads are considered Sno-Parks Nov 1 - May 30, $15 day pass required for parking, must be purchased in person from a vendor or online and printed, then displayed in the windshield.

Excellent loop starting from the Carson Pass trailhead on Hwy 88. Went clockwise on good trails with lots of water, greenery and flowers. South a few miles on the PCT, then west on Summit City Canyon trail and back north past 4th of July, Round Top and Winnemucca Lakes. Also took a side trip up 10,381' Round Top peak.

The upper reaches of the Sierra are starting to dry out, but there is still water available from melting snows. Not many bugs this time of year at least during the day. Warm days-cool nights. These small lakes are terrific swimming this time of year. There is a $5.00 day use parking fee.
