| no partners | | This was the day the group broke off to do our own thing. Deep sea fishing, tats and of course for me, hike. Was going to do the back way up the stair way to heaven but didn't have time and was concerned bout the weather.
Milled around HAZ and 1 other page to decide upon this insane outing. With a forecast of 86, & humid, I would be clearly out of my element. Let's hope for the best. Dropped off by an Uber here only to find this is not even the trail name and we are forbidden from attempting this outing.
Needless to say, I didn't see another soul the entire time. Plus, trail maintenance clearly ceased long ago. Can't even see the trail at all in some areas. It is jagged, uneven and narrow in stretches. With drop offs along the side of you, the stakes are high.
As you progress the ride grows wilder. As in, this hike is not for most. This is a very rare occasion where I was rattled and fearful. Once I stepped on overgrowth, only to have my leg go off the side of the trail. Further up, it becomes very muddy & slippery with sheer drop offs on both sides of you.
4 points of contact to final summit which is well into the clouds at 2600 ft. I text my friends from the summit, cuz someone needed to know where I was if things went horribly wrong. The scary moments continued along the descent also. I ended up in the darkness with no headlamp for the final steep and rocky climb out.
To sum it up, this is easily more dangerous + crazier than Brown's @4 peaks. I honestly didn't even want to do that final climb. Told myself I had to make it home to my cats. No way to speed up under these conditions. Just wow. |
