Then a guy and his kid and dog who was at the trailhead when I started came up as well as some DB named Hiking Bob (at least that's what his spare tire cover said as he sped by us when we were walking to the trailhead) finally made it to the top 20 minutes later. I only note this because he was trying to argue the sticks laid down by the entrance Mt. Mordechai trail where it intersects Ring the Peak constituted a closure. Because he builds trails for a living and hiked??? miles last year. I would be impressed if I didn't happen to know mine. That's right he used hiking stats to try to convince me of his expertise. I kind of laughed and I pointed out that Severy Creek is clearly closed with signs and that I suspected the sticks were laid there because people hiking or Mt. Biking were taking a wrong turn. In fact sticks and brush are used to define this trail all the way to the top instead of cairns and all the way to the toll road. I pretty much walked away and hopped on the trail. After Bob showed up at the top and headed toward Crowe Gulch after being told by the dad that there was 20+ elderly hikers that might be impressed by his stats and blogging infamy, I then ran into some other locals before going down who were on their way to the Mordechai trail. When I asked them they said they were told that those were put there because Mt. Bikers doing ring to peak clockwise were taking this trail in error. They do the same thing where 638 connects to Barr Trail to keep casual hikers from getting lost since 638 will take them to Cascade instead of down Barr trail to their cars. I guess Hiking Bob is a legend in his own mind and I certainly won't be getting an I hiked with hiking Bob sticker. This has to be the oddest workout hike ever, but I enjoyed some time with my boy! |
