It was an absolutely beautiful day, and I had my two dogs and my boyfriend along for the ride. As we drove we noticed lingering snow piles, and eventually had to abandon the car and walk the last half-mile to the trailhead on foot. At the trailhead, the campsites look a little worse for wear: the picnic tables are half buried in mud, but I can't wait to revisit the area a little later in the season. The snow was still fairly deep for the first mile of the trail, too, though it seemed to be melting quickly in the spring sunshine. Meandering through the old-growth firs and rhododendrons, we crossed small creeks a few times by log and boulder hopping. This is a perfect hike if you're looking to avoid the crowds. |
