| no partners | | I decided to hobble up to the Hobble Mountains today. It was about time that someone on HAZ showed this range some love -- there was only one triplog for this one, and that was 30 years ago.
The Hobble Mountains are a small range 35-40 miles west of Flagstaff, and it is about that distance from the Grand Canyon National Park. The unnamed highpoint is at an elevation of 7,454 feet and it has prominence of 534 feet.
I parked along FR 789C -- with a better route I could have driven a mile closer to the peak, but it was a short hike so I was OK with starting where I did.
This was a combination of a road walk and an off-trail hike through open country. I ascended on a ridgeline from the NW and descended on another ridgeline to the NE. There were some juniper trees to weave around, but it was easier than most off-trail hikes.
There are almost no rocks at all on this hike. I left a summit register log at the highpoint, and it took a while to find enough rocks to build a small cairn for the log book.
This was a straightforward hike and there were some good views along the way, particularly of Humphreys and Kendrick. |

Wildflowers Observation Light There were a few flowers along the way -- cliff rose and some asters of some sort stood out. |
