Mt. E x2 and down to Crowe Gulch for the High Point. Wouldn't want to be on the PP highway today. Planning a big hike Tuesday weather permitting and want to make sure my heel doesn't fail me in vff's which I haven't hiked in in awhile. Flowers are past prime, but there still are pockets. Used my Peak app from top of Crowe Gulch and there evidently is an Eagle Peak in the hood to go with the eagles nest which is the Pot Dispensary on the highway. Bruce seems to have a monopoly in our town. :)

More exploration to familiarize myself with the area for my return trip from Pikes Peak. I have hiked this area once from Barr Camp so I have been doing a little recon to make the unknown part of the route easier. Of course if they would just open Severy Trail since the fish they closed it for haven't been endangered for 10 years I could just connect trails from oil creek tunnel. Anyway, the wildflowers are substantial in the Crowe Gulch and 334 areas. I missed the turn for 334 the last two times because of extreme growth blocking the turn off. I definitely will have to explore the other trail where I found the cabin since I got turned back by snow last time. I might get around to checking out other areas in a hundred years when I figure out where all the trails in my area go. :)

Started out as a workout hike. :) Decided when I got to Crowe Gulch to try and follow the service rd. I hiked on a couple weeks ago. Haven't hiked since 4/29? Been sick with sinus and allergy issues made worse by being in Louisiana and having to work. :( Anyway missed out on a lot of precipitation and flooding. The service rd was washed out and following what I thought was the rd. Turned out to be flash flood damage and led me up the wrong canyon. At the ridge I met up with a trail that went in the right direction which connected to another trail. Started following this for several miles. Found a cool cabin and at about 10050' I hit snow. Trail disappeared in about 1 foot of snow. That appears to be the snow level I could see a couple cairns and the trail followed the contours down into a valley. I'll definitely be back when the snow melts as it seems to go in the general direction I want. I'm going to have to dig my local map out to see if the trail has name and stick it in route manager to see where it's at in relation to my big loop. Probably should start smaller when I've been sick. I'm a little tired.

Plan was to explore and mark some waypoints on an old service rd. I found a couple years ago when hiking from Barr trail home. It intersects pp toll road between mm 3 and 4 just past Crowe Gulch. I want to take it to it's terminus rather than the side trail I've taken in the past to see if it's easier to connect to oil creek tunnel trail on the backside of my planned Pikes Peak Loop. Problem is there was too much snow the canyon doesn't get much sun so the snow got about a foot deep on the climb so I'll have to do it another day.

Severy creek trail shows up every time I link Crowe Gulch just as an FYI not that anybody will hike this area, but it is closed and off limits so I have been told due to a type of fish that used to be and is no longer endangered. Anyway it has never reopened and would be the ideal trail for my loop and I can tell you that the signs deep in the woods make no mention of the trail being closed only the trailhead and rd. leading to it. I mention this because it's a pain in the pumpkin to do my planned PPeak loop w/ out this trail.
Saw super strange tracks going to Crowe Gulch and had no idea what they were until I startled a couple wild Turkeys. Not fast enough on the camera draw. Nice hike if you like rain, sleet, and snow. I'm in a Goretex state of mind... Anyway, my tracks in ring the peak and Esther we're gone on the way back.

Variety pack with snow. Took some little side trails, but nothing worth adding to the route. Only part that needed micro spikes was getting to the high point at Crowe gulch. Sketchy coming down with spikes and trekking poles. Someone and dog broke trail to RTP and turned around. The rest of the route was in 4" snow. It was snowing hard enough that my tracks were filling in on the way back. Second lap was getting warm. Somebody or thing took my skull I left on the log. No tracks to or from in the snow so it must have been removed yesterday. Did I mention I got to play in the snow?

Took a couple short side hikes for exploration along with the hum drum routine. I think I'm in good enough shape to do my Pikes Peak loop when the opportunity presents itself.

Nice weather and temps. Up to Mt E peak down to Crowe gulch up to high point. Took a small side hike up to ridge on the other side of the meadow to see what was on the other side. Another big canyon that probably needs to be explored when I'm not stuck in phone distance. :) I found a skull and some bones. I assume a mountain lion kill. Brought the skull back and put it on the trail. Should entertain the vacationers. Felt really good today and decided to bomb down the trail. Made it from ring the peak to my front door in 13 minutes. I wish I could go up that fast.

After 2 days of practice contractions my wife went to work. Omi took Micah to the pool for swim lessons. Left calf giving me some pain on descents? Maybe it will work itself out during eviction walk. Spring has sprung first flower on trail finally opened.
