| no partners | | After work jog. Started from Rio Vista Park "trail head" and went southwest this time. I've decided to make it a monthly chore to keep exploring this "trail system". Today, I basically did a short loop that took me from the Rio Vista Park to just before where Grand Ave (the 60) crosses the canal. Started on the east of the canal and looped back on the west side. As I did this, I realized that these were two different "trails." (I keep putting trails in quotations because I have a hard time calling these trails as they really just paved paths). That being said, there are trail markers along these paths. The one on the east side of the canal refers to itself as New River East Trail and the path on the west side of the canal is marked as the New River Trail. Besides being on opposite sides of the canal these "trails" follow the same course until the bridge at Rio Vista Park. That's where the New River Trail heads north and the New River East Trail turns toward the east. The length of my westward jog was shortened slightly by water. The water was still flowing fairly well from last nights monsoon and was flowing over the paved path where I turned around. Wildlife was up exciting but fairly abundant. Saw quite a few squirrels and quail, as well as chipmunks, rabbits and a roadrunner. |
