These were 2 separate hikes, both of which are off of Bush Highway near Saguaro Lake:
1) Stewart Mountain (elevation of 2,988 feet and prominence of 988 feet)
2) Water Users Peak 2433 (elevation of 2,433 feet and prominence of 553 feet)

Stewart Mountain
(2.74 miles with 1,276 feet of AEG)
For this one we parked along Bush Highway, a short distance before getting to the "no parking" signs near the Butcher Jones turnoff.

We crawled under a fence then went along the desert floor for a bit before ascending to a saddle between the 2 subpeaks. This ascent to the saddle was steep, brushy, and bouldery -- much moreso than I envisioned. We took our time and made it up there with no issues.

Once past the saddle things got a bit easier. The hike was fairly flat for a bit, and then was a moderate grade to the summit. Views were really nice at the summit, so we hung out there a bit.

I saw a trip report from @FLYING_FLIVER where he had to use a jackhammer to uncover the benchmark, which was under a mound of dirt. I am happy to report that the benchmark is now free of any dirt and in fact is as clean as the board of health!

We made our return more-or-less the same way that we came up.

Water Users Peak 2433
(1.8 miles with 1,030 feet of AEG)
For this hike we parked at the Water Users Recreation Site. I have an America the Beautiful Pass which covered the parking fee.

There is not an official name for this peak. Topo maps denote its elevation of 2,433 feet, so convention is to call it "Peak 2433". However, it is the highpoint of the ridgeline that runs east-west between this peak and Blue Point, and I have seen it referred to as the "Blue Point Ridge Highpoint". The summit register was placed there by Barbara Lilley in 2012, and Barbara called it "Water Users Peak" in the register. In deference to Barbara, I'll refer to it as Water Users Peak 2433. As an aside, Barbara did the steep, brushy ascent of this peak a few months before her 83rd birthday!

From the parking lot we walked across Bush Highway, crawled under a fence, and then basically busted up towards the peak from the southeast. The ascent was fine for a while, but then got a bit steep and rocky. It was easier than going up to the saddle on Stewart Mountain though. We eventually made our way to a false summit, and then on to the peak.

Views were great at the summit and we enjoyed being up there.

On the descent, we took a ridgeline down that was further to the east of the route that we took up. I thought that our descent route was better than what we did on the descent. If I were to do this hike again I would use my descent route for both the ascent and the descent.

Synopsis
Both of these hikes were steep, but I enjoyed them. I think that I liked Water Users Peak better though. Views were great on both summits, and it was a great winter day to be out there: sunny, light breeze, and a high in the low 50's.

With no plans for the day I figured I'd just start driving out Bush Highway until something came to mind, and hopefully I'd come up with that something before I reached Payson.

Thankfully it didn't take long... on literally the spur-of-the-moment I pulled over in the winding portion of Bush Highway. Ok, now that I have a starting point, what's the plan? Still nothing, so I just set off with a vague thought of racking up a bit of elevation along the way.

Having already done the Stewart Mountain triple a number of times I quickly ruled that out so if I wanted the AEG in one shot instead of a long series of ups-and-downs I was pretty much stuck with Peak 2433, so that's what I did.

I had used a southwestern approach when I first climbed Peak 2433 in July 2013 and although it was much warmer, I don't recall it as steep as the northern approach I was pretty much forced into today. ('Forced' based more on where I was when I decided to climb it) Based on how steep it was, having to literally claw my way up in some spots, my upper arms got a thorough workout, along with the calves of course.

Unlike in 2013, there was a log under the cairn at the summit. Surprisingly, other than BEEBEE's SOTA log in Feb 2014 all I found were entries for earlier this year... more than a dozen in one group from the Sierra Club and one solo entry.

After taking my usual panorama video and photos I knew right away I had to find a different descent route. Climbing it was easier in the sense I was only looking up, but now, looking down? No way!

For just a moment I thought of using roughly the same route as in 2013, but I didn't care for the long walk back along Bush, so I scouted around a bit and found a game trail (it appeared to be from deer) heading down to the west. While the trail would fade and return a few times along the way, it was definitely easier than my ascent route, albeit through scads of fox-tails and dried burrs. Tracey would have loved it... NOT!

I should have said, the first half of the route was easier, but I did not like the lower part. So after consulting the map and seeing larger gaps between topo lines in the drainage a quarter mile farther west, I took a bee-line for the saddle above the drainage. The drainage turned out to be the easiest slope (up or down) I'd encounter on the day.

As I approached the Goldfield Ovens Loop horse trail I decided I had enough of all the off-trail chaff and just followed the trail. But maybe 50 feet from the trail I met a group of four equestrians... of which it appears I scared the guy second in line, as he brought his horse to a dead stop, which made his wife (who was immediately behind) wonder why he stopped. It must have been that I had my cooling neck gaiter pulled over my face so only my eyes were visible. Supposedly I seemed like a ghost to him.
:o
A half-mile along the trail, when I saw two women on horseback I figured I better drop my mask before they got too close. The first one was quite surprised, saying "I've ridden this trail for years and have never encountered hikers before"... well, now you have.

In fairness, out of a half-dozen hikes in the area I had only met equestrians once before. But then again, I have used at least five different routes, including a more treacherous and long-defunct horse trail.

All in all, a great full-body workout on an unseasonably cool day. Best of all I was done just in time for rush hour along Bush Highway... a never-ending line of vehicles, more than a few monster boats and even more monstrous 5th-wheel RV's.

Fun little hike. Very challenging. I would rate the difficulty higher than 2 - it's very steep. Got a late start because I forgot my Tonto pass. I had a very large swarm of bees fly right over my head on the way down. It's the first time that's happened to me and I just froze in fear hoping they weren't after me LOL.

This peak was on the list for a SOTA activation I noticed it was not in the list as a hike description so it was a 2 for 1 deal. New SOTA peak never activated and new HAZ peak.

I started after lunch the hike up is steep in places but not difficult vegetation was manageable just a nice hike.

On the Summit I made 35 contacts all over the USA Canada and Japan. After about 2 hours of playing I headed back down.

Fun afternoon
