Wrapped my day of work up around 2 and got the idea I needed to play radio on a peak. I have been looking at this one for sometime and figured it would be a good one to do after work when daylight hangs out a little longer.
The drive to the TH is longer then the hike to the peak. With some small areas of dense Manzanita it took about 30 min to cover the distance. Once on top I was treated to some nice views of Four Peaks, Mt Ord, Roosevelt and the Mazatzals.
Radio wise band conditions were good made about 34 contacts from Coast to Coast some Aussies were on peaks but band conditions did not allow for me to talk to them. In the end I gathered another 8 points and explored a new peak.
This is the first time this peak has been activated. The first time activator gets to name number only peaks for the SOTA map and I think I am going to call it Rock Pile Peak. The name fits once you see the photos. |
