This one has been on the list for a long time. I set out early on Friday to camp at the trailhead, acclimate to the elevation, and get a head start on the lengthy approach.

Good views, surroundings, food, singing, etc. make this one I would definitely do again.

[Short ‘n’ sweet, cuz most of it's covered in the Description I wrote]: This was such a nice treat to be able to hop off the highway, drive a few minutes down the road, and bag ‘n’ tag this fun little peak on my way back to Southern AZ. In looking up other things in the area, Dugas Road seems to be a hot spot for awesome hikes. The few miles I drove in to reach Estler Peak were very beautiful, and the summit views were awesome. I can’t wait to do more in this neck of the woods.

I noticed this bump along Dugas Road was going to be close by on this day. It looked like the kind of place the ancients might have put an outpost. The googleverse came up with exactly one hit to "Estler Peak Ruins"...no details...but I thought I'd take a look.

Nothing impressive but on top there is a ring of rocks and the remnants of a stacked wall. I didn't notice any pottery but that's not unusual for a lookout/fort.

I poked around on the far side where there were some outcroppings. Nothing much to see but I was startled by a nearby "bark" and a few seconds later saw a javelina running away. Later while traversing back to the car they scared me again by bolting out of a Juniper I was passing by (Dad, Mom, and Baby). I also saw a deer at a distance but that was OK.
