This had been burning a hole in me since early June when we turned back at the bottom of the 5.6 section. I finally summited Courthouse Butte.
It was a surprisingly hot day and the rock and south facing bowl were a lot warmer than I would have like. Scott (my climbing partner) and myself made our way up through the mixed scrambling to the one pitch of climbing relatively quickly. The 5.6 pitch took a while, but we got through it and made our way up the rest of the way to the summit. This was about 50 feet of trad and sport climbing that Scott led and place a few cams and I followed. On the lower half we used cams, and on the upper part we used the bolts that were in place. I went over to the west summit to get a shot of the Peaks. This is a neat climb, but it is very brushy and is not likely to be one I do again, or often if I do it again.

This was a sad failed attempt to summit Courthouse Butte north of VOC. We made it up to where we think the 5.6 section was, but had to turn back because the bolts that were advertised as being there were not. We had no cams, so we went no further. It actually wasn't that bad as far as the climbing was concerned, but the exposure was really high. If it isn't too hot this summer, it would be a good climb to try. Unfortunately, all the gear was my partners and he's going to the PNW for the last half of June, so I won't be back up there until he gets back. The plan is for Humphrey next weekend so I can get my thin air fix, and he can get some elevation.

After my failure, I hiked in to Fay Canyon. I was alone and it was very peaceful at the end of the day. I didn't do the arch, so I am not logging it independently.
