| no partners | | I hiked this route on Dec 4th. The trail is fairly easy to follow for the first 1.75 miles with many cairns. After that, there's a fairly steep climb (not for beginners) and it's quite a bushwhack in some places. At around the 1.9 mile area, we decided to follow the ridge line UP to the high point which is about 0.25 miles North of the posted route. There were areas infested with shindaggers. Maybe more than I've ever seen on any hike in the last 5 years. We spent almost 2 hours on the peak having lunch and looking at the amazing views of the city of Tucson. Then, we decided to back-track down to the route and follow it to the official end. Getting back to the route ate up a lot of time. It was quite a bushwhack and we needed to move slowly in some places. At the end, we could see what we believed to be finger rock, but we could not see the "finger". I'm curious to know if anyone else was able to see the "finger" from near the end point of this route. Anyway, it was a great hike and weather was near perfect, well worth it!! |
