| no partners | | Went hiking with a wellness recovery group in the Catalina State Park. The group brought their dog too so she got to joined us. We hiked along the Sutherland trail (for some reason OnX Backcountry showed it as the Bridle trail instead of the Sutherland trail, I'm not sure if they follow the same path since this is my first time at the Catalina State Park.) Since this was a group hike, I usually don't get to stop for geocaches, but the group leader gave me enough time to find one and that's good enough for me.
We followed the Sutherland trail for about 1.75 miles, which was rather sandy and partly in a dry wash, before turning onto a junction towards Romero Canyon and the wilderness. There was a sign that said no dogs and we had one, I would've turned around but it's a group hike and they wanted to go that way, so the dog joined us. We followed this for a bit towards the dry falls area. Saw some of the painted stones along the way and saw a crushed barrel under a few tons of rock at the base of the falls. I wonder how that got there? We hiked around this area, peaceful except for distant gunshots. Once the sun peaked over the mountains we headed back to the van.
I took photos and a .gpx track and uploaded them to here yesterday. Don't know how to attach them to this triplog since I changed the name once I realized this was not the Bridle Trail. Enjoyable hike in all. Would do again. |
