20+ years since my last visit, was very excited to see Point of Pines Lake again!
First stop was at the San Carlos Recreation & Wildlife office to get our permits, then the 50 mile drive up BIA 8 to the lake.
Very scenic drive, many stops along the way including the Cliff Dwellings along the Nantac Rim.
Arrived at the lake under warm sunny skies.
Hiked the lake trail ending under stormy skies and a few rain drops on the water.
Very beautiful little lake in the pines!
Stayed for a couple more hours to get a line wet, no luck ... skunked on rainbows.
Completed the drive back home ending a wonderful day at San Carlos.

Real highlight of the trip was the wildlife sightings!
20 or so wild turkeys at the lake.
Many deer and an elk on the drive in.
4 bighorn sheep just under the rim.
A dozen pronghorns in the flats.
And the most cows I have ever seen on a day trip and many horses along the way.
:pk:

One of my favorite trips of the year and with my favorite partner!
We WILL be back ...
:D

Did some exploring up on the Nantac Rim. First time in this area and I have to say the area is a gem. Cliff dwellings, tons of water features and pines. A bit humid as it rained briefly in the morning but temps in the mid 70's were perfect. Checked out the dwellings, Point of Pines and Dry lakes and found a really cool tank where the fish were jumping out of the water trying to catch the bugs on the water (Upper Clover Tank). Maybe a handful at Point of Pines Lake and say no one else the entire day. Picked up a day rec pass at the Circle K in Globe which was $10, well worth it for the area.

Met up with Team Buford™ for a holiday weekend in the pines. Never been up here before and I can say it's definitely somewhere I need to revisit. Endless views in every direction, an easy drive, and the kind of people-density I can live with. :y:
