| partners | | At the end of my Rees hike, I ended up meeting Shanye and Tojo at the Hobo Jungle, which is basically at the bottom of Rees Peak. Which was good because I was able to drink a cooler full of beer on the peak and not worry about anything but getting down the hill and falling into bed.
Sunday Lee showed up just as the eggs and bacon were finished cooking and LL followed a few minutes later. So we headed to the crag! I was weak and got caught on an angle on what should have been an easy 5.8, but I just didn't like making the turn. The rope was way off to the side and despite directional anchors, I felt like a fall would have me swinging like a pendulum across the face of the rock. Eventually I just got tired and decided not to keep the others waiting.
I would try another route later, but for the most part it was just a lazy day for me. It was fun watching the others make some impressive climbs, and fotg kicked butt for a first timer. Trying a 10b/c later in the day, he got stopped short of the top. Apparently climbing takes technique and not just strength! (At least he has one of them ... I have neither! )
One of the other climbers there who was paying attention delivered what I thought was a very good quote: "When you can't muscle through it ... that's when you learn how to climb."
Fun day. I need to get to PRG and refresh so that these trips will be more fun. |
