| no partners | | Drove all the way to the panel and then jumped out for closer inspection/photos and wandering around to see if there was anything else in the near vicinity. I've read that you can drive all the way through the canyon and it looks like you might be able to make a loop back to I-70. But we weren't interested in spending more time behind the wheel, so we back-tracked the way we came. Next time we'll do more hiking as the canyon itself is pretty amazing. Kinda' reminded me of Comb Ridge, but also of areas further down the Swell.
As for the name of the canyon....I had done very little planning for this particular drive/hike so, frankly, I didn't know exactly what we were looking for. I assumed the "dragon" to be what appeared to us as a dog or wolf on it's hind legs. I've since read that the image in the following article is the so-called Black Dragon. To me it was rather faint and I couldn't make head nor tails of it so I didn't even take a picture.
