Drove with Mike B to end of FS 4010. We parked and hiked to the lower saddle. We encountered some light rain and needed to wear rain jackets within the first 1/2 mile. From there climbed another 100 feet to the base of a cliff where Mike B wanted to rest (0.6 miles). I continued hiking up staying to the left of the cliffs. The rain stopped then started again but it was just a drizzle. I reached the top of the ridge after a total of 1.46 miles, then continued along the rocky ridge which had a lot of ups and downs. I reached the peak after a total of hiking 1.84 miles. There was a registry at the top under a rock pile which showed 3 summits including mine since december 2020. I was able to communicate with Mike B through walkie talkie every 30 minutes most of the time out there. I saw evidence of border crossers as I found multiple pairs of carpet shoes, discarded clothing and large bags. The carpet shoes tell me they are up to no good (criminal activity)...

I covered most of it in the Description so this one will be short 'n' sweet. :) The only other thing that was pretty cool and more fitting for the triplog vs. Description section: driving out from the TH, I passed a border patrol agent on FR 684 and started chatting with him. Come to find out, he and a buddy of his also bagged Diablo Mountain. I showed him the pics I'd taken of the summit log [the mountain does not see many visitors to say the least, so I was able to capture pretty much everyone who signed in with just three photos]. He identified himself and his buddy. It's nice to know that some of the local border patrol are also into bushwhacking up remote peaks. If only I thought to ask about a few other peaks in that area that are even more remote…!
