Start of a long 5 day road trip in search of autumn scenes. Day one was from Tucson to Springerville via the venerable Coronado Trail (US191/666..your choice). Got treated to a fair number of bighorn around the huge Morenci mine and noticed for the first time the grave sites of the Old Morenci Mexican Cemetery on the hillside as I wound my way up to Granville.
Beautiful and powerful area.

There's not much to add here that I didn't put in the hike description...but...Does this mountainous area north of Clifton/Morenci, but WAY south of the White Mountains have a name? The San Francisco Mountains? The Generic Mountains? Does anyone have an answer to this?

My original plan was to do the Pinal Trail again. "No, I'm gonna do the Granville Trail." Off I went to Granville campground again, on a beautiful spring afternoon, having finished working in Morenci. Reaching the highpoint on the Granville Trail, plans changed again. "Screw it. I'm gonna do this as a loop." And I did. Took a little longer than I'd planned, but it was a great hike. This was a very welcome escape!
