I took Flanagan up to the Chamise Peak Trail. Sadly, it was a bit of a foggy/cloudy day, so I didn't get to enjoy the 360 views from the top of the mountain. Even so, I really enjoyed the unique quality of the forest there, and I super appreciated that people that designed this trail. The elevation gain (isn't alot) but you don't feel a thing. I had to head out of Redding today, but I get the sense that you could spend ages exploring the area.

It's been a while since I've hiked this trail because I mostly use it for biking now, but I wanted to take my camera for some photography. I thought there would be more snow on the mountains around for some cool photos. There was some snow, but not much, and the view of Mt. Shasta was blocked by weather. Still an enjoyable hike.

Nice partly cloudy weather for a hike up Chamise Peak Trail, I always love how the trail spirals all the way around the hill as it approaches the peak instead of doing switchbacks. At the top I met a group of people from Bethel, who are always very nice in my experience but can be a bit strange. Bethel is a megachurch in Redding, CA that attracts young people from around the world through their music, social media, and hefty promises of enlightenment and the ability to perform miracles. I was told by this stranger that he felt a connection to me, and he asked whether I had pain in my left knee. I did not have any knee pain, but that didn't faze him. He continued to speak of the miracles of God, and asked if there was anything I'd want him to pray for. I asked for rain, and he seemed confused why I would ask for something so simple and he asked why. I said bigger waterfalls. Rain was already in the forecast, but I'm sure he will credit himself a miracle during this week's showers.

Managed to find a break in the rain to make it up Chamise Peak. Very convenient trail close to home, with nice views. There were small streams on the way from all the rain, and the Sacramento River had plenty of water (although dirtier probably because of the rain bringing in dirt). There is now a picnic table at the top of Chamise Peak! We had lunch then headed down just in time before the rain picked up again.

It was a beautiful day out today, so I just had to get outside after spending some time cleaning my place. Chamise Peak is just a short drive away and offers some great views of Shasta Dam and Mt. Shashta. I got the outdoor time I was looking for, and only saw a few other people on my hike including two bikers.

Great day for a hike on this trail--cool weather and clear views from the peak. The trail looks smooth enough that I'll be able to bike up it next time even without a true mountain bike.
