After finishing up Passage 15, I decided to skip 14 since it looks like it has more elevation gain throughout than I would want to deal with as the weather is getting warmer, so I skipped down to Passage 13. Wally and I started from the Tiger Mine TH and hiked the road down to Oracle State Park. Along the road we encountered several side by sides coming the other way, looks like they had a big event planned.

The AZT is its own dedicated trail within the park, not just another trail that's part of the park with another name that doubles as part of the AZT. I'm not sure of the history of this, if it was called another name before, did they build this section of the AZT in the park after the park opened, etc. We did notice that almost immediately the trail was not the same as the track we downloaded for the first half mile or so. After that it was on.

We took the AZT to the Manzanita Trail, then made a loop back to where we entered by taking that trail, the Granite Overlook Loop, Nature, Mariposa, and Cherry Valley Wash Trails. At the end of the Granite Overlook Loop Trail, there is a parking lot with several picnic tables, one of which was under a very shady tree. This was the perfect lunch spot and we took full advantage. It was very nice to have lunch in the middle of the hike with the comfort of a table and shade. After we finished, I also took advantage of the recycling bin there to unload some empty Gatorade Zero bottles.

No wildlife seen to mention, although Wally said he saw a dead animal off the road just before the trailhead on the way back. We made very good time and it really didn't feel like we did as many miles and AEG as we did, which I suppose is a sign of good health. Weather stayed comfortable the whole time, probably lower 80s by the time we were done.

Lucky 13. I thought is was gonna be a warm hike. It wasn't cool at the start but didn't warm up much during the day. We got dusted by the quads on the road hike starting out. The trail was easy to follow with gentle slopes and a nice breeze. The flora was still green so scenery was good. We found the best lunch spot. A picnic table under a shade tree with a breeze. We finished early and it turned out to be an easy day.

I was in the area for work so…
Website says the main entrance opens at 8:00am in the winter months. Ranger pulled up at 7:59.
I got a map from him but he doesn’t stay at entrance booth. They leave you to self pay. He goes on to the ranch house visitor center and runs it. There is a double bathroom there but only one works albeit very clean.
I started at the Nature Trail and looped it with Wildlife Corridor Trail, Arizona Trail, and Manzanita Trail. Nice hike for solitude! Quiet! The trails are in rolling grass hills and in great shape. It looks like the were weedeated! 😳🤗 Except for a bird or two, I saw no wildlife on the wildlife trail. On the Manzanita trail I saw 2 Whitetail deer a red tail Hawk and then 3 more Whitetail deer later. Both times the deer were by washes with tree thickets .
Enjoyed the quiet time and rolling hills. The AZT portion had me reminiscing about all the good times we had hiking it 10 years ago or so!
The historic ranch house is cool too!!
Enjoyed checking it out and reading about the family!! Great trail weather and company. 😂😂

Took the Nature Loop and extended by adding the Wildlife Corridor, Gasline and Firebreak trails for a larger loop. Mildly warm morning with nice breezes on the ridgelines. Enjoyed the self-guided tour of the ranch house and history. Nice State Park that sees low usage.

What a fiasco type of day. Laying low after dental work and doctor's orders for a couple of weeks and decided to give it a shot and run a half marathon with the Tucson Trail Runners. The Oracle Rumble at the state park was cancelled this year, so TTR put on their own low key event today. It was cool and breezy to start, upper 30's and had a hard time getting into the groove. Our route had us on the Windy Ridge, Granite Overlook, Windmill Loop and Manzanita Trails along with a section of the AZT. After about 6 miles of running I was finally starting to loosen up and feel decent, came around a corner and was greeted by the perfect view of the snow capped Catalina Mountains. Decided to reach for my phone to snap a picture and discovered it wasn't there. So bailed on the race, turned around and slowly did a skeleton jog all the way back to my car to look for my phone. Cursing the entire way, I kept scouring the grass along the trails to no avail.

Made it all the way back to my car and didn't find my phone. All the while asking everyone I met on the trail to keep an eye out for it. Got to my car and hightailed it home to grab my wife's phone and was prepared to drive all the way back up to Oracle to look for it. Got in the car and my wife made a comment that my phone was moving and it had already made it to downtown Oracle. Pulled the car over, tried calling my phone and no answer. Headed home to see if I was getting any messages. Looked on Facebook and luckily someone had sent me a message that they had my phone. They were driving it back into Tucson and I was able to meet up with them and retrieve my phone.

My overall assessment of the area is that it's worth going back for a run, but the trails would be fairly boring to hike on. High desert grasslands with rolling hills that go on forever. Trails are smooth and entirely runnable.

linked together a bunch of trails to take in oracle state park. i haven't been out here in 6-7 years!

very nice route and trails. big open land with sweeping views from the high points

the wind really kicked up on my return leg and i had to do most of the climbing running straight into a stout headwind. that wore me down towards the end quite a bit.

still had a great morning out there. very few people.

Attended a wedding. We were shuttled to the ceremony site with our bikes. After the ceremony we rode back to the reception at the ranch house.

First trip for the both of us to Oracle State Park.
We started with a tour of the Kannally Ranch House. Very cool 4 level house constructed between 1929-33 and on the National Register of Historic Places.
We then hit the trails. Counter clock-wise loop starting out on the Wildlife Corridor Trail :next: AZT #13 :next: Powerline Trail :next: Mariposa Trail :next: Bellota Trail.
Very nice well maintained trails with great open scenery . In fact, some of the best looking trails I have ever seen in a state park!
Lots of cactus blooms, wildflowers and flowering thistle plants throughout.
Many vultures and hawks above, but not much wildlife spotted on the ground today.
A very enjoyable day spent at Oracle!
