| no partners | | After leaving Panorama Point (the Nebraska highpoint) I headed to Mount Sunflower. Mileage and elevation gain shown above is for the drive between the 2 high points. Interestingly, the elevation gain is only 200' more than that on my hike up to Pike's Peak the previous day.
I was going to post a GPS track of the drive, but this site apparently does not allow posting a track to the destination if the starting point is in a different state.
A good bit of the drive was on well-graded unpaved roads that I had no problem driving 50-55 mph on. I was also on paved county roads or state roads a lot of the time, where the speed limit was 65 mph, but you basically could drive whatever speed you wanted to -- I drove miles and miles and miles without seeing another vehicle. Driving on these roads was WAY better than driving on an interstate.
Mount Sunflower is only about a mile from the Colorado state line. As was the case with Panorama Point, bagging this "peak" does not involve a hike; instead you drive right to the highpoint, which is in the middle of a field.
I took a few pictures at the highpoint, and then continued on my merry way. |
