Hit all the standard viewpoints. Decided to post a photo at each spot for HAZ reference. The views here truly are outstanding. I had never been here before and just wanted to introduce myself to the area and get ready for a possible return trip in the canyon bottom sometime.

The Cottonwood campground was not appealing to me, so I was happy to find that the privately owned Spider Rock Campground was more my style. Very primitive, and it allows campfires too!

Great experience with Tso's Horse Tours. Met our guide Stanley, mounted our horses and began our trek into the canyon. We learned canyon history, saw many ruins, petroglyphs, and heard several stories. Camped at the junction of Chelly and Muerte, ate a good meal, roasted a few marshmallows over the fire then slept under the stars. Woke up the next day, went for a short hike, ate breakfast and got back on the horses for the rest of our tour.

Couldn't do Monument Valley without at least taking a quick look at Canyon De Chelly on the way home. The plan was to hit a couple of lookouts like Spider Rock and Mummy Cave and maybe hike down to one of the ruins. Then we saw an empty horse outfitter and the group made a quick improv decision to check out horseback riding. The price was right...about $30 bucks a person to enjoy a 2.5 hour trip into the canyon. We accepted the deal from our friendly guide, and Dallas Cowboy fan, Gabriel. Gabriel didn't seem to mind entertaining this group of Iron City Steeler fans.

We couldn't have timed this trip any better as De Chelly was at its fall color peak, the weather was beautiful, the clouds amazing, the light breeze perfect. I only wished we didn't have to go back for another day.

The horseback trip was a great teaser into what De Chelly has to offer, and I look forward to going back soon and visiting our friend Gabriel.

I had the opportunity, along with about 80 others, to run a 17-mile stretch of Canyon de Chelly starting from the mouth of the canyon all the way to and up the Bat Canyon trail (and back). Along the way we were treated to several up close and personal sights like White House Ruins, Spider Rock, and many others places most non-Navajos have never seen before. It was spectacular! This event was special, and possibly one of the best trail runs I've ever done!

Was give the opportunity to ride passenger with one of my Higher Ground friends for photos on this trail. Of course for me that meant a lot of time hiking along side.
We did the guided thing with Antelope House Tours. I can't say enough good things about our Navajo ride along guides. Every night there was story telling and singing as we camped on their family's land. Ben had an eerily beautiful voice and Adam, his son, had the gift of mixing old passed tales with his own interpretations and morals.
The first day after waking we drove and explored Canyon de Chelly, the second, Canyon de Meurto, and then a little Black Rock Canyon before leaving on Monday morning.
A very magnificent trip I would recommend to anyone.

Daytrip out from Flag to check out all the overlooks we could see, plus a stop in Ganado along the way.
