| partners | | For the past few years Oregon_Hiker and I have planned an April one week Sierra Ancha Wilderness "vehicle camping / hike exploration" trip. This 2018 we had originally planned to remotely camp/explore east of Young, AZ, around the historic (with large, ancient pueblos), private Q-Ranch area but as we continued our Jan-March'18 planning for this April trip, HAZ-ssk44 was on a major roll locating a number of new (to us) ancient Indian Ruin Sites in from the very scenic Sierra Ancha Wild- Bull Canyon TH area and we were fortunate to share-in his new Google Earth findings
In early March, Oregon_Hiker and I decide to change our destination plans for our April'18 from the Q-Ranch area to stay within the southern boundary of the Sierra Ancha Wilderness with a planned camping week (6 nts/7days) of mostly off-trail hiking destinations in from the Bull Canyon TH area (at the end of FR203A).
We had previously discussed our plans with HAZ-RedRoxx44 and she was invited to join us. As it turned out, Larry and I stayed for 5 nights/6 days (four day hikes) and Letty was able to drive up from Tucson to join us for 1 night/2 days on our planned Sat-4/21 hike. We had an awesome Camp Grasshopper dinner meal planned for all Saturday evening which worked out well (see picset).
Regarding this "Camp Grasshopper-Sierra Ancha-FR203A":
As confirmed by this campsite selection, this Sierra Ancha FR203A area is not well suited for available, primitive vehicle campsites with many amenities. This chosen campsite area was about the best we could locate that was within a reasonable driving distance to our planned TH Start location at the Bull Canyon TH. I ended up needing to cut back the only large "wind break" Sugar Sumac bush [ Sugar Sumac ] for my Camp GH Kitchen and as it ended up, the two hours I spent doing so with kitchen setup, provided me the needed wind and afternoon shade protection for our 6 day full sun and wind exposed stay.
The less than one-half mile drive to the Bull Canyon TH with the very scenic 360 degree near and distant Sierra Ancha Wilderness views help make-up for this campsite's lack of other amenities.
