Showed up around sunset and got to see the Sandhill Cranes hanging out. It’s always astonishing how loud they are. I imagine them chatting about their day and who ate what.

We camped in the van in the camping area. Taco wasn’t interested in walking too much.

I got up at sunrise and watched several groups take off. It was probably below freezing. Then around 10 walked the full loop and there wasn’t a crane to be seen in the immediate area but there was a Vermillion Fly Catcher!

Went to see the Sandhill Cranes after skipping it for a year or two. Saw probably 10,000-20,000 of them - it's hard to even estimate. Quite the spectacle, and I highly recommend it.
Plenty of other good birds too - I got about 25 different species - but no Barn Owl ... I can never catch them!
Lots of people on the day before Christmas Eve - but there's also plenty of room to spread out, so it was still peaceful.

Quite a bit more water than a month ago.
More birds and birders, too.
Five hours looking for Ani this time ](*,) ... I've decided that I hate that dumb bird and I don't even want to see it anymore!
Also stopped at Lake Cochise/Twin Lakes Golf Course in Willcox - hundreds of shorebirds and others there, awesome spot! I'll never again drive through Willcox without stopping there.

My first ABA Rare Bird Alert chase ... couple hundred miles driving plus a couple more hours searching - think I heard it when I first got there, but no looks. :(
Hot, humid, buggy, not many birds of any sort.
Good news was that I somehow stayed dry despite rain and storms all around most of the day.
Spur of the moment stopped off at Pearce and randomly got a couple good birds at the cemetery. :y:
The darn bird was seen and photographed again today (7/15)! Can't believe I missed it!
Going to try again Wednesday! :D
