Wanted to visit the Rock Lakes, but didn't think the road to the upper trailhead would be snow free, so I parked at Hideaway Lake Campground and hiked in. Had the trail to myself the entire day which was a nice surprise for an area that usually has quite a few visitors.

Shortly after arriving at Hideaway Lake a thunderstorm blew in, so I took shelter in my truck and waited it out for about a half hour. Once the rain subsided, I headed up trail- taking my time to fish my way around Hideaway Lake- hooking several fish, but only landing one.

Next stop was Shellrock Lake where I fished the shallow eastern edge of the lake before beginning the snow covered ascent up towards Frazier Rd Turnaround. Fortunately I had my GPS tracks from previous visits to aid in my navigation and I was able to make my way up to the turnaround without any issues. The parking lot was completely empty- proving that I was correct that the road was still snow covered. I dropped down the snow covered path towards the Rock Lakes- leaving fresh prints in the snow. I visited the Middle and Lower Lake, but didn't linger too long because large storm clouds were starting to build again. It would have been nice to visit Upper Rock Lake, but I didn't have any rain gear and didn't want to risk getting wet and still facing a hike back through the snow.

On the return trip I tried fishing the west side of Shellrock Lake which was much deeper and landed a nice size brookie.
