The second day of hiking I had big plans but I broke my hiking partner the day before, Knee issues. We took it easy today and hoped for a speedy recovery because we still had Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak and the Sand dunes scheduled over the next few days. The Sprague Lake trail is just below Bear Lake and is an easy 1.5 mile stroll along the lake. This hike is beautiful at sunrise and I imagine at sunset. My plans were to go on up to Bierstadt Lake but I could see Ginny was not in any condition to do anymore so we stopped here and drove around the rest of the park.

sue and i checked out a couple of little things after our earlier hike thursday
overcast and kind of gloomy by that point, but i wanted to see sprague lake
nice picnic area with running water and seemingly the only flush toilets in the park
did the loop around the lake
got some dinner in estes park, then drove down st. mary's lake road to lily lake and walked around that
both lake hikes were short, flat and scenic
thunderstorm just to the south made for dramatic skies

Being only 750' lower than Bear Lake, Sprague Lake was completely melted and there even were a father with a son sailing in an inflatable boat.

My friends had recommended I check this out. It is a very nice lake. Bonus was spotting elk in the area!
