| no partners | | The mountain north of Dubrovnik, Croatia, reached by most tourists via a nifty and fast gondola from just above the old town walls, is hikable via a rocky trail with many switchbacks from Jadranska cesta (the closest street). The hike has about 1200 feet aeg, and is highly recommended because of the stunning views of Dubrovnik Old Town along the way. At the top is the gondola station, a restaurant, touristy shops, and the remains of a Napoleonic fortress built in 1810. The track will be helpful in finding the gondola station and the trailhead. I also posted the track all the way from the Stradun, because the signage is not very good to the gondola station or to the TH. The tourist guides warn against bushwhacking along the hillside because of unexploded ordnance from the 1990’s war. Honestly, reaching the top of Mt. Srd while visiting Dubrovnik, either by trail or gondola, is a must-do because of the unparalleled views of the city, Lokrum Island, and the Dalmatian Coast line.
Note that the gps track is one way, starts at an alley off the Stradun (a main thoroughfare in Old Town), goes up to the lower gondola stataion, up a series of streets to the actual trailhead, and then up to the top of Mt. Srd. |
