This was a hike to arguably the best kept secret in Utah: The Candy Cliffs, aka Yant Flat.

This area reminded me of Zion, sans the crowds. In fact, I had the place to myself, although a couple of people were coming in as I was going out.

This place has some cool candy-like swirls and patterns on the Navajo sandstone in the area. I enjoyed walking around and checking out the views and the geology. There are lots of rock outcroppings just begging to be climbed, so I was happy to oblige them!

There are two main areas of exploration, and I only had time for one of them.

This is a neat place, and I would like to go back there again sometime -- one could easily spend the better part of a day out there.

In addition to the geology, there was a decent wildflower showing.

Very nice, beautiful hike to rock formations similar to The Wave near Coyote Buttes North. Road in was pretty good shape during our visit but could be a bear after rainy weather due to what seems like a clay base. The area is on a plateau north of St. George, Utah, and was included as a hike for our hiking club outing in April. The hike actually doesn't take very long, but you could spend all day out there wandering among the various formations. A real gem, not on many charts. My track will help you find the trailhead and get you to the cliffs where most of the best views are. Best of all, no permits needed.
