Doing loops around Lucero trails in Estrella Mountain Ranch this morning. Wandered around the raptor trails, it's been a while and they don't appear to see much traffic, except for Thrasher. Had the trails all to myself. Trails are in great shape since the rains earlier this week.

Met up with Nina who laid out a fantastic loop this morning at Lucero trails in Estrella Mountain Ranch. Started on Sidewinder, Nitro Knoll, Copper State Crosscut, Ridgeline, Copper State Crosscut, Coyote Creek clockwise, Centipede, Viper (Venom), Black Widow, Coyote Creek counter clockwise, Tarantula up and down, Coyote Creek back to Sidewinder. Saw 2 other women on Centipede near the top.

Took the fat bike out for a spin with my neighbors Ben and Craig this morning on nearby Lucero trails in Estrella Mountain Ranch, Goodyear. Started from Ladero Park on Hillside Drive which has paved parking spaces and warm restrooms. Took Hillside trail to Copper State Crosscut clockwise to Upper Recluse to the saddle, down Tarantula, Coyote Creek counter clockwise back to Tarantula up to the saddle, down Upper Recluse and Lower Recluse, out and back on Coyote Creek and Thrasher, looped Scorpion, then Copper State Crosscut, Hillside, finishing at Ladero Park. Less than 6 mile ride, but a deceptive amount of climbing (and pushing). Stopped at Cafe Bedida where Craig treated Ben and I to some gourmet coffees.

Waited nearly to lunchtime for the temp to warm up. Started from Safeway at Estrella and Elliot, crossed Estrella Parkway to Pirate trails. What Up, Hook Up, Beam Me Up, Saddle Up, then tunnel under Estrella Parkway at Hillside drive to Cottontail and Tunnel trail. Hillside DG to Copper State Crosscut, Nitro Knoll, Sidewinder, down Lower Recluse, Scorpion Loop, Coyote Creek back to Sidewinder, Upper Recluse, down Tarantula, Coyote Creek back to Tarantula (Up), down Black Widow, Thrasher, then out to Cotton Lane. Cross Cotton and then Roxy Road back to the Estrella/Cotton circle, sidewalk back to Safeway. Didn't see anyone on Pirate trails. Saw a bunch of hikers on Lucero trails. Saw two mountain bikers on Roxy Road. Felt real good today and was pushing hard.

Met up with Carey and Christina this morning at Ladera Community Park off Hillside Drive in Estrella Mountain Ranch for a Harem Hike on the Lucero trails. On Hillside trail for a minute to Copper State Crosscut, up and back on Ridgeline to Bradley Peak, counter clockwise on Copper State Crosscut to Nitro Knoll, Sidewinder, Upper Recluse, Viper, Centipede, Coyote Creek, Copper State Crosscut back to Hillside and Ladera Park. Passed some fellow hikers early on and saw some mountain bikers down on Scorpion from the Viper/Centipede highpoint. Nice cool temps, easy breezes, and clear skies made for a fantastic hike. Post hike treats at Safeway at Estrella Parkway and Elliot.

I was planning on driving up to Phoenix Mountain Preserve this morning and riding Sidewinder and Ocotillo loop, but I got like no sleep last night and slept in (5:45 lol) and decided to stay closer to home. I just got to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Lucero trails! You are pretty much going up or down the whole time. Narrow and intense, 100% focus! Started from Ladera Park on Hillside drive. On Hillside trail for about a minute then Copper State Crosscut anti-clockwise to Nitro Knoll, Sidewinder down to Hillside drive and then back up to Sidewinder. Up to the powerline saddle then down Recluse to Coyote Creek over to the Scorpion Loop, Coyote Creek back to Sidewinder back up to the powerline saddle, then the upper half of Recluse to the downhill half of Tarantula, lower Coyote Creek anti-clockwise back to the uphill portion of Tarantula, then down Black Widow to Thrasher back to upper Coyote Creek again to Copper State Crosscut back to Hillside and Ladera Park. I was thinking of adding Centipede and Viper trails this morning, but they are tough and I need to conserve some energy for pickleball tonight :) Had the trails all to myself this morning.

Started at Safeway on Estrella and Elliot, crossed Estrella and headed to the UP trails, What UP, Hook UP, Beam Me UP, Saddle UP, UPper Pass, Round UP, UPside Down, back to Saddle UP. Used the tunnel to cross under Estrella and jumped on Hillside DG over to Lucero to Copper State Crosscut, Recluse, Tarantula, Coyote Creek, Thrasher down to Cotton. Crossed Cotton and took Cicada back to the Cotton/Estrella circle. Had some nice shade in the hills. Was warming up by the end of the ride. Saw one dog walker on Hillside.

Parked at Safeway on Elliot and Estrella Parkway and headed east to Pirate trails. What's UP, Hook UP, Beam Me UP, Saddle UP, UPper Pass, Round UP, UPside Down, Saddle UP to the Hillside tunnel. In Lucero, Tunnel trail to Hillside DG, Copper State Crosscut counter-clockwise, Sidewinder, Recluse (upper), down Tarantula from the saddle to Coyote Creek south back to Tarantula up to the saddle, down Black Widow, Thrasher, shortcut down to Cotton to Cicada (Dog trails) to the Cotton/Estrella roundabout then back to van. Had the trails all to myself. Lots of action grading some future construction in Lucero.

Manic Monday MTB at Lucero with my Bagel buddy Doug. Only five and a quarter miles, but you have to work for every foot of it. Some nice shade on the western slopes. Lots of construction going on below along Cotton Road. Started from Cafe Bebida parking lot and took Sidewinder to Copperstate Crosscut, Upper Recluse, down Tarantula to Coyote Creek counter clockwise back to Tarantula back up to the saddle and then down Black Widow. Down Thrasher back to Coyote Canyon then clockwise over to Scorpion Loop, then back on Coyote Canyon to Sidewinder back to the parking area. It like having a little piece of Sedona in my backyard.

Lucero trails in Estrella Mountain Ranch are great for both hiking and mountain biking. My neighbor Craig joined me this morning for a mountain bike ride on the awesome roller coaster like trails of Lucero. We started at Ladera Park which has running water toilets and a paved parking area. It's a short ride up the decomposed granite Hillside trail to Copper State Crosscut access. Followed that clockwise around to the big powerline tower where we picked up Upper Recluse to the top/saddle and then down Tarantula. South/east on Coyote Creek back around to the beginning of Tarantula and back up to the saddle and down Black Widow to Thrasher around to Coyote Creek. North/east on Coyote Creek with a side counter clockwise trip on Scorpion Loop and continued all the way round to Sidewinder. I had planned on Sidewinder back to Copper State Crosscut, but Craig said that he really, really, wanted to make the climb up Nitro Knoll, so we rode that over to Copper State Crosscut instead. Took Copper State Crosscut back around back to where we started and DG Hillside back to the van. Lots of trails for just over 5.5 miles, but they are just tons of fun! It was real nice to get in a ride, come home and wash up my gear and the bike, jump in the shower, and be sitting in my chair in time for the Showcase Showdown :)

I got a Harem hike on the schedule for tomorrow and Sunday/Monday are looking to be a wash out, so I thought I'd go out and punish myself on the mountain bike today. I guess summer must be on the way, because my leisurely winter morning pace meant it was heating up by the time I started to roll. Parked at Estrella Safeway and hit the north Pirate "UP" trails, Estrella Loop, Pirates Cove, 1 Up, Pirates Cove, Giddy Up Alt, Giddy Up, What Up, Coyote, What Up, Hook Up, Beam Me Up, Saddle Up, Upper Pass, Upside Down, Round Up, Upside Down, and back out to Estrella Parkway on Saddle Up. Used the tunnel to cross under Estrella Parkway and jumped on Hillside Drive DG north to the Lucero trails, Copper Creek Crosscut, Coyote Creek, Tarantula, Black Widow, and Thrasher out to Cotton Lane. Crossed Cotton Lane and rode Roxy's Road back to the Estrella/Cotton traffic circle to return to Safeway. Say one hiker on the Up trails. Lots of headwind on Roxy Road. I was tired. It was a good day to empty the bucket :) Steak dinner with sauteed mushrooms on the menu for tonight. Drool!

Tried to talk my buddy Craig into a Lucero ride earlier this week. Since that fell through, I strapped on my hiking boots this morning and headed out to scratch that itch. Changed up my normal routine by parking at Ladera Park which has a nice covered playground and a restroom with flush toilets. Walked up the DG sidewalk/trail to Copper State Crosscut and up Ridgeline to the top of Bradley Peak. Came back down the shortcut to Copper State counter clockwise to Sidewinder, Nitro Knoll, and Coyote Creek. Then up to the saddle on Recluse. Tried to follow the, no longer existent, hiking trail up to the peak, but wound up connecting up with Venom and taking that to the top. Down on Centipede back to Coyote Creek west to Copper State Crosscut back to where I started. Lots of construction activity below installing utilities into the future homesites. I usually never see anyone on these trails but there were plenty of hikers and just one biker out on them this morning. Lots of weeds encroaching on the narrow trails. Some wildflower activity.
