In preparation for a short backpacking trip in Canyonlands this weekend, I decided to head out to the Monument and do a longer hike. The day was gorgeous, so I knew I couldn't get away with a longer trail outside of the Monument - too many bikers on the trails close to me. Definitely was good to get out and put some real mileage on, especially since it is lighter later now, and previous weeks have seen commitments and weather hamper my outdoor activities. Deer, bighorn, and various birds along the trail, and not a single other hiker to be seen at any point except on the Liberty Cap portion. I'll end up writing up the Upper and Lower bench trails as some point soon.

Wasn't feeling great and the 500 foot gain in a quarter mile really thrashed me. Back up in the canyon the hike was a breeze and the canyon itself is very pretty. Def going to do the hike again when I'm feeling better and do a longer loop in the canyon.
