Stopped off at Dead Horse Point State Park to check out the views of the Colorado River. This was a short stop before entering Canyonlands National Park for hiking. Great views of the river from here but you have to be willing to pay the 20 dollar fee for entering. The rim trail has great views of the river and the east end of Canyonlands National park near the visitors center. Good views looking down on Shafer Road and Potash Road.

moved this hike up a day due to high wind warning for thursday
1100 start from the dead horse point state park visitor center
went out and back on the colorado overlook trail, then picked up the east rim trail down to dead horse point
took a little break there for snacks and photos, then headed back north on the west rim trail
hit all overlooks along the way - seven total
the last piece is an out and back on the bighorn overlook trail
this one was the best one, mostly on slickrock, ending on a slickrock slab full of large potholes
at this point i discovered i could not find my camera, so we backtracked to the previous overlook, adding about a mile and a half to our nine mile hike
didn't find it, so we finished the loop and went to find our campsite
i went back to two more overlooks, but no luck
back at camp i looked through my pack one more time and found my camera in a pocket i don't use
just happy to find it, but felt bad about adding the extra mileage for my partner
scenic, relaxing hike
good trail with little elevation gain
my track doesn't have good aeg data, so i'm posting an estimate
we camped at a walk-in tent site
winds stayed relatively calm and we packed up before the front blew in
i've wanted to check this park out
well worth a visit if in the area
no need to do all nine miles
more info is available on the utah state park website, including a map of the hiking trails
