| no partners | | An early arrival in Arizona's Yosemite (an absolutely comical nickname) left me with a few hours of daylight and time for a quick hike. Despite the holiday, the visitor center was open and I took the opportunity to buy a green trails map of the area. This option looked to be just about right.
With only the paper map I had just bought, I headed uphill, hoping that I'd be able to find a scramble route to the summit of Cathedral Rock at the end of the marked trail. After a couple of wrong turns and some route-finding challenges I topped out at the saddle at the base of the Cathedral. It was quickly evident that there would be no getting up that rock!
I was 5 minutes ahead of my turn around time to get down before dark, so my break was brief. I made great time on the way down and had just enough daylight left to gather some wood to burn for a chilly night at the campground celebrating the holiday with a fee free day (thank you for your service). |
