I did this hike as part of a road to St. George, UT; however, also did some hikes in AZ and NV along the way.

I had intended to do the hike from the Oak Grove Trailhead; however, the TH was still closed in the aftermath of a human caused fire in the Oak Grove Campground in late August. Thus, I had to go to plan B and do the hike from the Forsyth Trailhead.

It was an enjoyable hike, although there wasn't much in the way of views with all of the tree cover. I put microspikes on at about 9,500 feet. I was in-and-out of snow on the trail for a while, and I'd say that the ground was completely covered in snow for about the last 1/2 mile to the summit. There were only a couple of inches of snow, and the snow was crusted over so the microspikes worked well. It would have been slippery without the spikes, so I was glad to have them.

I did not see anyone on the trail until I got to the summit, and 2 other hikers came up there. They had gone up the Oak Grove Trail in spite of the closure. They were peakbaggers, and I talked to them for a few minutes before heading back down.

If I lived in the area I would likely do this hike occasionally in the summertime -- it gets hot in St. George, but you are mostly in shade on the Forsythe Route and the elevation is high enough to get out of the heat.

I wouldn't mind doing the hike from the Oak Grove Campground sometime just to see how that hike is and to check out the views. Most out-of-towners come to the area for the nice views, and you won't find much in the way of views hiking from the Forsyth TH; so I really can't recommend that route unless you are hiking in the summertime when you'll really appreciate all the shade cover on the route.
