This is more of a path to a waterfall than a true hike. Read-paved. $25 and can swim at base of waterfall.

Very pretty. We drove to the other side of the island for this and then went snorkeling. Will do some partying tonight, then go for something more major tomorrow. Till then...

Shauna and I stopped by Waimea Valley, one of my old favorites, on a circular drive around the island of Oahu. We made our way up the paved pathways of this amazing botanical garden and tropical rain forest, marveling at the incredible plant life. Passing thunderstorms unleashed a downpour as we reached Waimea Falls, so we cut our visit to the falls short. The garden was closed when we made it back, so we left the oppressive humidity and mosquitoes behind to enjoy sunset at the beach. Fun day!

For what it's worth: ***Admission is now $16. for adults. Hours 9 to 5:30 pm.***

I didn't remember much about this place from our family's 1990 visit here, other than the beautiful waterfall. Nineteen years later, I returned. After the hike through the botanical garden, we arrived at the falls. With significant cloud cover, the swimming hole was a bit chilly, but it sure felt good! A very special and memorable place.
