While our first two waterfalls of the day were over in the Selkirk Mountain near Bonners Ferry, our third one was over in the Cabinet Mountains northeast of Sandpoint.

There was one group camping near the trailhead, but nobody on the trail. Most of the trail stayed alongside Grouse Creek and was flat and easy, save for one spot of slippery rocks. Approaching the end of the trail, it headed uphill above the creek, then very steeply descended down to the falls. The trail and rocks were wet and muddy, but there was a rope to help you try not to die. I told Wyatt to hang onto that rope no matter what and we carefully made our way down. He slipped once, but didn’t let go, and suffered nothing more than a bruised rear end.

Once at the bottom of the rope, the falls were directly in front of us. They weren’t a vertical drop—more of a steep raging rapid, thanks to all the snowmelt—and the creek curved past in an S and out of sight.

After climbing back up the rope, we veered off the main trail and down some use trails right next to the creek. Once spot back to the south also had some neat views of the creek, so we stopped for a moment then headed back to the main trail. Quick hike back out, and we finished up about ten minutes before it started raining.
