Another (very) short but sweet one. Not even a mile into the falls and back, good trail, steep start and forest has a PNW vibe. Although, I should state, I have never been to the PNW. The falls were quaint but fun. The trail is well marked and there is a footbridge crossing the creek at the falls. The trailhead is a little ambiguous, no kiosk, no information boards. You start at the pullout for Big Stew Creek and then cross the road to the signed start of trail.

This was as far as we went down the scenic U.S. 12, before calling it a day. I would recommend the drive to anyone, especially, anyone with an interest in history and Lewis and Clark. The drive generally follows the route they took referred to as the route between two rivers. It was their most difficult time of their journey, as they left their boats behind to walk on foot over the continental divide to access the river systems that would eventually link them with the Columbia River. The drive is full of historical markers and colorful names of terrain features and places that have stuck around since Lewis and Clark went through. For example, Colt Killed Creek and Camp is a reference to the colt the expedition killed and ate because the route was too taxing on the horses and men to send out a hunting party.

After spending the rest of the day reading historical markers and enjoying the scenery, we headed back to the other side of the Bitterroots again.
