My original plan was to drive up the road park and then attempt the summits from there. When I got there, the road was very narrow and I saw a sign that said "restricted access road", so I thought it would be better not to drive up. I parked there and started walking up the road. Within 3 minutes I was met by some workers and a truck coming down. They told me the road eventually crosses private property up higher and they suggested a better route for American peak which involved taking a gully South and then summiting from there.

Since I was also hiking Hermosa Hill, I thought it would be best to summit that first and then look for some other ridgelines heading up to American peak from there.

I followed an open gully North that basically paralleled the main road for about 1/2 mile. Then, I decided to hike East, climbing up higher. After a few minutes I saw a yellow cord/wire, which could have been for phone/internet and I followed it up higher for a while. The yellow cord kept going higher but did not go to the summit. Instead it headed toward the North side of Hermosa hill. I didn't see any fences here or any private property signs. Eventually, I was able to make the summit. The brush wasn't bad at all going up. Just some oak and pine trees and it didn't get too thick. I was able to find good paths up between the trees. The peak looked very nice and I could understand why it was named Hermosa (Beautiful, in English). There were some oaks and pines and some shady areas, and also some open spaces. From the top of Hermosa Hill I was able to look South toward American peak, which was considerably higher, about 700 feet higher roughly. I didn't see a survey marker at the peak, but I did see a circular metal hole where it looked like the survey marker may have been removed.

There was a registry at the top of Hermosa Hill with one entry in 2020, another in 2021, and nothing for 2022. My summit was the first recorded summit for 2023. I would have thought there would have been more names in the registry.

AEG = 1,291 feet for both peaks

Parking: A good place to park is at these coordinates: 31.451746, -110.729324. There's an old working windmill here with some old equipment that looked like it was not being used. Then, there was a narrow road leading up. This was a "restricted" road, so you won't want to drive or walk it. But, you can park down below, near the windmill.
