I did this hike in conjunction with Hermosa Hill which is nearby. Stats will be based on starting from Hermosa Hill and ending where I parked down below.

There was an unknown peak/hill roughly 1/2 mile Southeast of Hermosa Hill. In order to summit American peak, I thought it would be best to aim for the saddle just South of this unknown peak/hill. Once at the saddle I was able to climb the final ridge leading up to American peak. This involved zig-zagging a bit to avoiding the thicker brush. In a few spots, I saw some Apache hedgehog cactus with many bright red flowers. I kept heading up toward the high point and eventually made it to the peak. At the peak, there was a rock pile and some migrant trash (ex. rusted metal cans, etc.). It seemed as if it was there for a long time. I found the official survey marker South of the rock pile and registry. The registry looked battered and trampled. I wrote in the registry "What perfect symbolism" since America had been battered and trampled for many years now... Knowing there was private property somewhere to the West of the peak, I decided to hike South for a while and then head West when it looked clear. The hike going down the South side of American peak was quite a bit steeper, brushier and slower overall. I hiked South down a steep section to a saddle down below, then I continued South, wrapping around the mountain until reaching the next ridgeline heading East/West. Then, I took this ridgeline all the way down to the road below. Once at the road, I traveled about 0.9 miles North to get back to where I parked.

AEG = 1,291 feet for both peaks (Hermosa Hill and American Peak)
