| no partners | | Long shuttle hike to complete this segment of the MC2CT, starting from the Salt Springs Reservoir trailhead and ending at Lake Alpine. The trail winds through beautiful forest with newer single-track sections connecting existing dirt roads (some roads in use and others abandoned), with mostly good signage at junctions. Good trail conditions except for a couple short stretches with major downed trees. Crossed several creeks with good flow.
I completed the full 55-miles of this trail in four day hikes. Backpacking would be an option, with about a 2 hour shuttle drive between the start and end. The trail doesn't get much use but overall its a fun and very scenic area. |

The route follows Emigrant Trail (19E01) which runs from just east of Bear Valley to the Mosquito Lakes paralleling Highway 4, then takes a short section of 2015-built trail to connect with Pacific Valley Road and the Milk Ranch Meadow trail (20E01) into the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness.
Still lots of water and greenery as the mountains have had some good summer rains on top of the huge snows last winter. Excellent trail conditions with one exception - from the Cape Horn access point east for about 1.5 miles the trail has had no recent maintenance and is mostly faint and occasionally non-existent, with lots of downed trees and only some faded pink ribbons to help stay on track (GPS recommended). Otherwise an excellent day, with lots of other trails for future exploring in this great area. |

| no partners | | Fun, scenic route, went counter-clockwise. Milk Ranch Meadow trail is little used and faint in places, Weiser and Highland Creek trails are more established but have lots of downed trees.
NOTE: The Milk Ranch Meadow trail and the short road walk between the Tryon Meadow and Gardner Meadow trail heads is part of the Mokelumne C2C trail. |
