We are currently hanging out at a laundry mat in Hamilton Montana trying to figure out what to do with the next two days of inclement weather. We woke up to snow and are currently in a winter weather advisory for the next 24 hours. However, we completed this hike under perfect conditions on our second day in Idaho.
The trail was in great shape and there was only a handful of deadfall along the way. There were only a couple of patches of snow on the trail and those could have probably been avoided with a little effort. The lake was stunning, as was the forest along the way with some extremely large old growth ponderosa and firs. We did not see anyone on the trail and really enjoyed the nice gentle grade, although, the last stretch to the lake does get a little steep. It was a shock that we made it to a lake at 8,800 feet this time of year in the Sawtooths, but the opportunity was appreciated and it proved to be an excellent choice and perfect hike.
